OUR STORY
CALFKICKS RECORDS was founded in 2023 by Jiro.T on the Gold Coast, Australia.
In the late 1990s and early 2000s, Jiro was active in Tokyo and Sapporo as the guitarist and vocalist of the hard mix-style rock band UPPER SOUL BREAK. After stepping away from music for many years, he eventually moved to Australia and began a new chapter of his life.
The story of CALFKICKS began when Jiro attended a show by Japanese rock legends Guitar Wolf, who had come to Australia from Japan. The raw energy, loud guitars and uncompromising spirit of their performance moved him deeply and reignited something inside him. After years away from music, that night inspired him to return to the world of music and start creating again.
Inspired by the cinematic world of Quentin Tarantino, the raw energy of rock and roll, and the sounds of vintage surf rock, he began creating original instrumental music influenced by film soundtracks, vintage guitars and the music he had always loved.
What started as a personal creative project soon began to grow into something bigger.
In 2024, the first project under the name The Calfkicks was created. Blending instrumental surf rock, loud guitars and a distinctive visual identity, The Calfkicks began developing its own sound and world. Inspired by vintage surf music, garage rock, film soundtracks and classic rock and roll, The Calfkicks was created without a traditional singer — instead, the guitars became the voice. The project combined loud instrumental music with masks, cinematic visuals and a distinctive visual identity.
In 2025, The Calfkicks produced two music videos, Garage King and KENDAMA, continuing to build the visual and musical world of the project.
Then, in March 2026, the story came full circle.
The Calfkicks performed as the opening act for Japanese rock legends Guitar Wolf at Vinnie's Dive Bar on the Gold Coast, Australia.
Just three years after watching Guitar Wolf perform and being inspired to return to music, he found himself standing on the same stage as the band that had helped reignite his passion for creating music.
But the experience did more than complete a dream.
Performing before Guitar Wolf gave him a new inspiration. Their raw energy, speed, simplicity and uncompromising approach to rock and roll inspired him once again — this time to create something new.
From that experience, a new three-piece instrumental project was born.
In April 2026, Calfkicks Surf Breaker was formed.
Built around a simple idea — three players, fast instrumental music, loud guitars and no unnecessary complications — Calfkicks Surf Breaker took the spirit of the original CALFKICKS world in a new direction. Darker, faster and more direct, the trio was created as a simple and powerful instrumental surf rock band, carrying the energy and attitude that had inspired the project in the first place.
The trio released Run and Break Out, marking the beginning of a new chapter for CALFKICKS.
Today, CALFKICKS RECORD continues to grow as an independent creative platform for music, film and new projects. The idea is not limited to one band, one sound or one direction. CALFKICKS RECORDS is a creative world — a place where different projects can exist.
From instrumental surf rock and dark guitar sounds to cinematic music, music videos and visual storytelling, there are no limits to where the next project may go.
Everything begins with an idea, a guitar, a sound, a camera and a story — and the desire to create something different.
And to wherever the music takes us.
